Live life to the full. Live off-campus.

There are so many options to consider when deciding where to live while you are studying. For most students the biggest question is whether to live in on-campus or off-campus student accommodation.

Living on-campus does have the advantage of convenience – being so close to class means you never have far to go. But given many students don’t spend all day, every day going to classes, what happens when the lights go out at the university? In some cases your options can be quite limited. That’s why it’s a good idea to consider off-campus student accommodation – it offers all of the supportive benefits of on-campus living along with flexibility, convenience and its own unique advantages such as:

Increased opportunities to find part-time work

With more businesses and potentially less competition from other students also looking for work, it is likely that you will have more chance of finding an interesting part-time job (and closer to home).

The chance to build a more diverse social network

Given you will be living with students from other universities and colleges and from all over the world, it is a great way to make friends outside of your day-to-day university social circle. It can also provide a great academic network with people offering unique and creative perspectives to problem solving and study techniques.

Greater access to amenities and transport

By living in the thick of it you can have everything you need close by like shopping, cinemas, restaurants, cafés, bars, health and fitness, cultural activities and public transport. All Iglu properties have these things, and more, right on the doorstep.

A change of scenery each day

They say ‘variety is the spice of life’ so it’s good to get some separation between your study and living environments. Leaving campus each day gives you a chance to clear your head and re-focus.

The key though is to do your research to ensure that you choose the right accommodation for you, in the best location to suit your needs. University Info and Open Days are a great way to learn about the various options but the best way is to see them for yourself, meet the teams running them and the other students living there.

If you want to learn more about the advantages of living off-campus you are always welcome to give the team at Iglu a call or pop in and see us. Our students are also happy to share their experiences so that you can see if it’s the right fit for you.
