Iglu Students Sydney and Brisbane
Iglu's Guide to Glebe
Glebe is one of Sydney’s most student-friendly suburbs, and being just a short 10 minute walk from Iglu Central it offers some great options for food, shopping and so much more!
Surrounded by the beautiful Blackwattle and Rozelle bays, the suburb of Glebe is filled with funky bookstores, cafes, and small bars making it the perfect hang-out for students and anyone looking for a relaxed way to enjoy Sydney.
At the very end of Glebe Point Road, you’ll find 'Glebe Point', a beautiful waterfront park with sports grounds, bicycle tracks and some of the best picnic spots you will find in the city - so why not pack a picnic lunch, a good book and head down with some friends for the perfect place to enjoy the afternoon sun.
One of Glebe’s oldest cafe/restaurants, 'Badde Manors', is on Glebe Point Road near Broadway and, with late-night opening hours and a home-style vegetarian menu, this cosy cafe is constantly filled with students and locals, who are welcome to make themselves comfortable at a table for as long as they like.
If you’re in Glebe late at night, keep an eye out for the friendly cafe-owners of Baade, who spend summer nights after close sitting outside with beers - they’re super nice and likely to offer you one too!
The Inner West’s most famous markets, 'Glebe Markets', transform the public school on Glebe Point Road into a bohemian paradise each Saturday. With secondhand clothing, emerging designers, books, gifts, amazing food and drink (try the chai!) and a thicket of grass to hang out on while you listen to the live musicians, it’s easy to spend the whole day relaxing at the markets.
Also on Glebe Point Road, you’ll find a cafe called 'Clipper' that is perfectly positioned almost across the road from Sydney Uni. It’s even worth the trek for non-USyd students, who will appreciate the varied (and cheap!) breakfast menu and consistently good coffee.
If it’s time for a slightly stronger beverage, pop in to ''The Little Guy', a small bar with cheap cocktails (and good happy hour deals), lots of unusual seating spaces spread throughout the converted terrace house, and - our favorite - a steady flow of free popcorn to snack on.... awesome!!
